Set Up Your Compact2Learn Account

This page applies to Compact2Learn institutional administrators.

Welcome to Compact2Learn!

Compact2Learn is a tool used to capture student civic engagement experiences and measure civic learning outcomes. Students use Compact2Learn to track the details of their service experiences and reflections, allowing institutions to connect these experiences to student learning outcomes. Compact2Learn offers a forms and evaluation assessment tool and an optional Online Approval feature, which allows supervisors and faculty to verify service experiences.

Account Setup Process

If you're new to Compact2Learn and need to set up your account, follow the steps below.  Any item listed as required must be completed for Compact2Learn to work. Items marked as optional are features you can elect to use depending on your program’s needs. 

By now, you should have received an email from your account manager who will be your contact for the next 2–4 weeks as you get your account set up. As you work through the steps below, contact customer service if you need any support.

Given your day-to-day work responsibilities, it's likely you'll need to complete your account set up over the span of a few weeks, usually between 4–6. Be sure to dedicate some time each day or week to completing the actions below. It may be helpful to bookmark this page so you can easily return to it as you complete your account set up.

Set Up Your Institutional Account

If you haven’t already done so, you need to set up your institutional administrator account. You'll use this account to complete the remaining steps and to manage trainees.

To set up your account, use the link provided in the automated email that was sent directly from Compact2Learn. If you haven't received this, check your spam folder before contacting customer service


Locations are community partner sites where a student completes the service experience. Supervisors are attached to locations and can approve activities and complete forms and evaluations.

Your task is to enter locations and supervisors so students can select them when they create experiences.

As you add new supervisors,


Add Faculty (optional)

Faculty members can verify supervisors’ approval of student hours, approve or reject activities on behalf of the supervisor, and complete forms and evaluations.

As you add new faculty:


Add Experience Types (required)

An experience type refers to the program name or initiative in which the student is participating. 


A term is the date range you create for the student's experience. This may or may not align with a program’s academic term. Remember to select the current term and update this each time you move to a new date range.

Tags can be created to track customized details about your students' activities.


Turn On Online Approval (required)

Turning on Online Approval gives students the ability to create experiences and submit their activities to supervisors for approval. If you do not require supervisor approval of activities, you must still complete this step.


Set up a Demo Student Account (optional)

Setting up a free demo student account gives you the ability to view and test your program details from the student perspective.


You can build and send your program's forms and evaluations to your students, supervisors, and faculty members through Compact2Learn. As a best practice, you should try to build all forms and evaluations before launch, but if that isn't possible, create at least one form or evaluation so you understand how the process works (you can always add more forms after you launch).
