PayPal Upgrade

Starting on January 1, 2027, PayPal will require the use of its most recent version. All EMP accounts that use PayPal need to update their payment gateway by following these steps:

  1. In EMP Settings, open the Payment Gateways page from the left menu bar.
  2. Click New Payment Gateway.
  3. Enter a name for the gateway and select PayPal Checkout as the Gateway Type. Note: the retiring version of PayPal is now named PayPal Classic (End of Life est. 1/1/2027) in EMP.
  4. Enter the Client ID and Client Secret from your PayPal account. Your technical teams can refer to this PayPal documentation for instructions on obtaining those fields.
  5. Once established, update all of the forms and checklists that utilize PayPal with the new payment gateway.

The call-to-action button on forms and checklists defaults to PayPal branding. If you own your own PayPal account, you can customize the call-to-action buttons directly in PayPal. Students submitting payments are prompted to either sign in to their PayPal account or use a debit/credit card processed through PayPal.

Email Service Provider Spike Limits

To ensure reliable delivery and avoid emails being flagged as spam, EMP now staggers the sending of large email distributions. Email providers (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook) may block emails if too many are sent at once. EMP delivers messages with more than 5,000 recipients at a controlled rate of 5,000 per minute (for example, 100,000 emails will take about 20 minutes to send).

Updated Email Metrics

New email metrics provide additional visibility into email campaigns and deliverability, including:

  • A metric denoting Delivered and Not Delivered emails is now in Campaign Analytics, Track Analytics, and Email Analytics. An email qualifies as delivered if it lands in any of the recipient's folders. These metrics are listed below the Sent metric.

  • The Open Rate is now calculated by dividing Emails Opened by Emails Delivered. Previously, Open Rate was calculated by dividing Emails Opened by Emails Sent. The help text displayed when hovering over the Open Rate reflects this updated calculation.

  • The Sent List for a specific email is now titled Email Delivery. On this page, the Emails Sent metric has been updated to Expected Emails Delivered, and the metrics of Emails Delivered & Emails Not Delivered have been added. You can click the Not Delivered metric to see a list of undelivered emails and search for specific Student Names, Emails, Error Messages, or Status Codes.

EMP Help Center Survey

Enhanced Email Address Validation

Email validation now occurs before emails are sent, when they are imported into EMP. Emails were previously validated only after they were sent. This prevents sending to fake email addresses and improves email deliverability, inbox rates, and reputation scores. Reports now track the number of emails removed due to invalid addresses. Additionally, invalid emails are checked quarterly until they become valid.

Two-Way Sync of GoToWebinar Events

Previously, event registrations from different sources (PURL, manual entry, SEM Form) were inconsistently recognized by GoToWebinar (GTW). The sync from EMP to GTW only updated changes to dates and times, not attendees. Now, the sync accurately maintains both EMP and GTW registration numbers and dates.

Enhanced Spam Test

Additional metrics are now available when testing spam emails. You can now view provider breakdowns, spam scores, and inbox placement details.
