Downstream Considerations

Data integrations exist to support business processes. When CAS applications are moved into Slate, there are several considerations unique to your business process that you’ll need to keep in mind to ensure your staff can do the work they need to do. The topics below are common downstream considerations that warrant your attention.

References/Letters of Recommendations

Letters of recommendation will not import to the reference object in Slate, which means the auto-generated Slate checklist items will not function. You may wish to reconfigure your checklist items to be more generic, make sure to review the Material Fulfillment Rank feature in Slate if you choose this approach.

If you wish to have reference metadata in Slate, custom fields should be used.

Review the Slate documentation about auto-generated checklist items and custom checklist items for more information.

Emails

We recommend testing the lifecycle of an applicant to identify emails that may need to be updated.

To create an email template in Slate’s Deliver module that notifies applicants that their application has been received and provides them the information they need to access the Slate portal (in place of the "Account Created" and "Application Submitted" system emails), follow the Slate documentation.

Race & Ethnicity for Foreign Nationals

CAS asks optional questions to all applicants regarding their race and ethnicity, regardless of citizenship status. This may be a change to your data if you previously only asked for this information of US citizens and permanent residents. It is important to note that this information will populate the Slate default dashboard for person records and anywhere else these exports are used. If relevant, inform your Slate users of the change. If you do not want this information in Slate, you may want to consider scheduling a retention policy to periodically delete select race and ethnicity data. Review the Slate documentation on using the retention policy editor for more information.

Application Material in Slate Reader

If there are questions you mapped from CAS that were not on your previous Slate application, they will not appear on the Slate auto PDF.

If the application material is a part of your reading process, consider the following:

  • Should the full application PDF from CAS be available in the reader?
  • Does the Slate auto PDF have all the information you need?
    • If not, you could replace the auto PDF with a custom dashboard via portals and merge any information needed for your reading process. Review the Slate documentation on portals in the reader if you are using the legacy tool for Slate Reader or Workflows if you are using the newer tool.

Checklists and Bins

Review your current processes to see if changes need to be made to checklists, checklist fulfillments, bins, and bin movements.
