Introduction

Othot is pleased to announce release 2022.2 of the Othot Platform. The release adds a variety of new features and enhancements, as well as significant improvements to overall performance and predictive capabilities.

New Features

Refining the experience and increasing the ease of getting to insights is a focus of each release. Many new features result from collecting direct feedback from our Partners and are useful for our entire community.

Melt Mitigator

The first of two new entries to the Strategize page will help you proactively get ahead of Summer Melt by uncovering which students are at-risk and what can be done to help each one of them individually. The Strategize page required the following new enhancements that have been developed for Admissions offices making these critical Melt decisions:

  • What-If Analysis
Easily simulate the specific recommended actions for each student who may melt. See which students the action would make the biggest difference for to prioritize the resource in consideration. This is a highly targeted way to improve any higher risk students’ chances of showing up to class on Day 1.
  • Filtered Analyze Page Grid
If none of the Recommendations are feasible or of interest, you can still develop creative ideas to improve melt outcomes by knowing which students are most at-risk. This option will present you with the students who make up the population you’re considering for additional resources to prevent melt on the Analyze page, regardless of their Recommendation, so you have a keen starting point in your decision-making process.

Aid Analyzer

The next Strategy will help you understand the impact your Financial Aid strategy has on admitted students. Follow the Aid Analyzer’s path to diagnose hits, misses, and opportunities. Then, you’ll have the information you need to decide if your preferred approach for a new strategy is a subtle tweak or a more significant reimagination of how awards are allocated. The Strategize page takes advantage of several new features to help Financial Aid teams perform analysis:

  • Othot Advisor with Visualizations
What is often missing from most reports or dashboards is context. Graphs and charts help to visualize data, but it’s not always easy to deduce what insights should be gleaned from them. Starting with Aid Analyzer, data visualizations and metrics collide into an automated explanation of what’s important with initial suggestions for decisions that can be made with the new information.
  • Exploratory Question Flow
Diagnosing the impact of Financial Aid is an important first step before developing and simulating the effects of a new awarding strategy. As a result, the path to these insights isn’t always linear and it can be beneficial to see more information before coming to any final conclusions. Aid Analyzer is more strategic than tactical, and as such, allows you to freely navigate through its rich insights before you ultimately choose to review Financial Aid Sensitivity or merely end the session and revisit another time.

User Experience Improvements and Other Enhancements

As with every release, many existing features have been improved or expanded. In this release, we’ve separated those in two categories.

Platform

  • Copy any cell value from Analyze page Grid
  • Additional Secondary Column values in Matrix
  • Combined Lifecycle Phases
  • Improved Individual Page histogram bins
  • Date grouping options in Pivot
  • Sharing Pivot Configurations
  • Delete a Strategy

Data Science Engine

  • Financial Aid Sensitivity Smoothing Phase 2
  • Improved Dynamic Progress-based Likelihood Scoring

Bug Fixes

Adding enhancements occasionally results in the introduction of software bugs. Our team has fixed as many issues as possible and gives top priority to user-reported problems. Here is a list of the more notable items addressed:

  • Multiple best models for a phase
  • Strategy outputs not surfacing applied filter values
  • Calculated expected averages in aggregate rows properly handling null values
  • Sensitivity Analysis selectively applying Dynamic Progress Likelihood Scoring
  • Sensitivity not applying default Grouping Buckets when available
  • What-If Error using Filter by Impact
  • Export of Sensitivity taking very long and occasionally freezing browser
  • Dashboard search not working properly
  • Saved View ordering changes not applying
  • Missing Strategy error messaging
