Overview
You can request official standardized licensing exam scores in the USMLE and COMLEX Scores section. Official scores are submitted electronically to ResidencyCAS from the following examination agencies. Paper copies are not accepted.
- Official USMLE scores are submitted from the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) and National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME)
- Official COMLEX scores are submitted from the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME)
Some of the programs you apply to may require you to report certain scores. Additionally, some programs may have a deadline by which they want your scores posted. Be sure to check with your programs to ensure you are completing all requirements.
Note that scores are sent to every program you apply to, with the first batch of scores being sent in September. Additionally, NBME and NBOME can view which programs you apply to through ResidencyCAS; this is to facilitate the application and review process.
You can submit your official USMLE and COMLEX scores before or after you submit your application. Once your official USMLE and COMLEX scores are attached to your application, they cannot be removed. Note that while you won’t be able to see the actual score, you can confirm that your scores have been received in the USMLE and COMLEX Scores section of your application.
Requesting an Official Exam Score
Before requesting your official licensing exam scores, be sure to enter the following details in your application. These must be listed for your official scores to be matched to your application.
- Enter your date of birth in the Biographic Information section.
- Enter your medical school in the Medical School Attended section.
To request an official USMLE or COMLEX score:
- Click Request USMLE and COMLEX Scores.
- Select your test.
- Enter your test ID. This must be listed for your official scores to be matched to your application.
- Select the checkbox to indicate you understand and accept that your scores will be released to ResidencyCAS and all programs you apply to.
- Click PayPal or Debit or Credit Card to pay for your scores to be released.
- Scores are sent to ResidencyCAS in batches and then posted to applications.
- Only scores that you requested will post to your application.
- While you won’t be able to see the actual score, you can confirm that your scores have been received in the USMLE and COMLEX Scores section.
Note: credit cards from some countries are not accepted by PayPal, our payment processor. This restriction only affects payments for USMLE and COMLEX scores and does not apply to ResidencyCAS application fees, which are generally accepted from most countries. If you’re unable to select your card’s billing country during USMLE or COMLEX payment, you can use a card from one of the more than 200 approved countries, a PayPal account linked to an accepted payment method, or a Visa Prepaid Card.
Requesting Additional Test Scores
If you need to request new or updated scores, you can do so in the USMLE and COMLEX Scores section. Note that you can request new scores once every 24 hours.
- Click Requested or Received.
- Click Re-Request.
Missing Scores
It is your responsibility to follow up on any missing scores in a timely manner. Before contacting ResidencyCAS customer service, first confirm if and when FSMB and NBME (for USMLE) or NBOME (for COMLEX) sent your scores to ResidencyCAS.
If you confirmed that the examination agencies sent your scores to ResidencyCAS and your scores are not posted at least two weeks after your test date, contact customer service and provide them with the following details:
- First and last names
- Date of birth
- CAS ID
- USMLE ID or NBOME ID
- Test date
- Date scores were sent by the examination agency
We will use this information to determine if we have received the batch and to locate your scores, if possible. If your scores aren't found, we will contact the examination agencies to troubleshoot.
Note: if your name or date of birth appears differently on your USMLE or COMLEX than it does on your ResidencyCAS application, your scores will not automatically post to your account. This often happens with applicants with hyphens, apostrophes, etc., in their names, or with former names. Wait until the examination agency processes the scores, then contact customer service so they can manually connect the scores to your application.
