This page provides resources for advisors working with students seeking residency positions in specialties that accept applications through ResidencyCAS. These resources are provided through partnership between each of these specialties and the ResidencyCAS team.

Advisor Resources for Obstetrics and Gynecology

Developed in collaboration with ACOG, these metrics are based on interview invitation data from a single application cycle. The metrics are intended to offer additional context about historical interview patterns across programs and should be used as one of many factors when advising students. Because interview practices and applicant pools change from year to year, this information is descriptive rather than predictive and should not be interpreted as an indication of future interview decisions. Percentages reported for specific applicant groups (e.g., MD, DO, IMG, signaling) represent the interview invitation rate within that group and are not intended to describe the overall applicant pool (and should not add up to 100%).

Report Metric Definitions

Total Applicants: the total number of applications the program received.
Applicants Invited: the total number of applicants who were invited to interview.
Total % Applicants Invited: the percentage of all applicants who were invited to interview.
% MDs Invited: the percentage of MD applicants who applied to the program who were invited to interview (e.g., if 100 MD applicants applied and 25 of them were invited to interview, this value would be 25%).
% DOs Invited: the percentage of DO applicants who applied to the program who were invited to interview (e.g., if 100 DO applicants applied and 25 of them were invited to interview, this value would be 25%).
% IMGs Invited: the percentage of IMG applicants who applied to the program who were invited to interview (e.g., if 100 IMG applicants applied and 25 of them were invited to interview, this value would be 25%). Note: This includes all applicants from non-U.S. medical schools and does not distinguish between U.S.-citizen and non-U.S.-citizen IMGs.
% Signal Invited: the percentage of applicants who signaled the program who were invited to interview (e.g., if 100 applicants signaled the program and 25 of them were invited to interview, this value would be 25%).
% No Signal Invited: the percentage of applicants who did not signal the program who were invited to interview (e.g., if 100 applicants to the program did not signal the program and 25 of them were invited to interview, this value would be 25%).
% With Failure Invited: the percentage of applicants with at least one licensing examination failure (USMLE Step 1 or Step 2, or COMLEX Level 1 or Level 2) who were invited to interview (e.g., if 10 applicants to the program had at least one exam failure and 2 of them were invited to interview, this value would be 20%).
% No Failure Invited: the percentage of applicants with no licensing examination failures (USMLE Step 1 or Step 2, or COMLEX Level 1 or Level 2) who were invited to interview (e.g., if 100 applicants to the program had no exam failures and 25 of them were invited to interview, this value would be 25%).
% In-State Alignment Invited: the percentage of applicants whose medical school was in the same state as the residency program who were invited to interview (e.g., if 100 applicants to the program went to medical school in the same state as the program and 25 of them were invited to interview, this value would be 25%).
% No In-State Alignment Invited: the percentage of applicants whose medical school was in a different state from the residency program who were invited to interview (e.g., if 100 applicants to the program went to medical school outside of the program’s state and 25 of them were invited to interview, this value would be 25%).
Invited USMLE Step 2 Average: the mean USMLE Step 2 score among applicants who were invited to interview.
Invited COMLEX Level 2 Average: the mean COMLEX Level 2 score among applicants who were invited to interview.
