Reviewing and Interviewing SOAP Applicants
Reviewing SOAP Applications
If a program participates in SOAP:
- ResidencyCAS will receive this information from NRMP and make the SOAP program available to applicants in the ResidencyCAS application.
- In the Program Portal, the SOAP program will appear as a separate listing from your primary program, with SOAP included in the program name.
During Match Week:
- Monday: all applications for your program – including existing applications and new SOAP applications – will be inaccessible, and no data will be visible.
- Tuesday morning: all applications become available. Use the Segment Selector to find the SOAP program segment and filter those applications for review.

- New SOAP applications are placed in the Received phase. All program rules and configurations from the main application cycle remain in effect.
Interviewing SOAP Applicants
Applicants whom you previously interviewed and reapply during SOAP may be interviewed again, including scheduling a second interview through the Interview Portal. Using the Interview Portal during SOAP is optional. Given the pace and structure of SOAP, you may coordinate interviews via email, phone, etc., outside of the Interview Portal. However, you can still use the Interview Portal to:
- Create interview sessions after an interview occurs.
- Capture notes, scores, or evaluations without relying on formal scheduling workflows.
Managing Interviews During SOAP
Interview activity in ResidencyCAS is tracked at the applicant level, not by individual program or track. Note the following:
- Applicants interviewed during the main cycle will retain their existing interview status, scores, and rankings.
- Submitting a SOAP application does not automatically change interview data.
- If you re-interview an applicant during SOAP, the most recent evaluation becomes the applicant’s current interview record.
Applicants appear only once in the Interview Portal, even if they apply to multiple programs or tracks within your organization.
Updates made in the Interview Portal automatically sync across all of the applicant’s associated applications in the Program Portal. No manual reconciliation between the main cycle and the SOAP applications is required.
Recommended SOAP Interview Workflow
- Filter to your SOAP program segment in the Program Portal.
- Select applicants and click Send to Interview Portal. You can send applicants to the Interview Portal individually or in bulk.

- In the Interview Portal, use the filter to isolate SOAP applicants.
- Note: previously interviewed applicants retain their status unless it's updated.

- Note: previously interviewed applicants retain their status unless it's updated.
- If re-interviewing an applicant, update their interview status to Interview Candidate or Invited and Ready for Scheduling.
- Complete scoring and/or ranking.
All interview updates automatically sync back to the Program Portal.
