Citizenship Information

United States Citizenship Details

Select your US citizenship status and country of citizenship, if applicable. If you have dual citizenship, indicate your second country of citizenship.

When selecting your status, consider the following definitions:

  • US Citizen: an individual who was born in the US or attained US citizenship another way, such as through naturalization. Select this status if you have a US passport or are currently eligible for one.
  • Permanent US Resident: an individual who was granted lawful permanent resident status. These individuals commonly have a Permanent Resident Card (I-551), often referred to as a "Green Card."
  • Temporary US Resident: an individual who is lawfully present in the US under any of the various possible immigration statuses. This category encompasses, but is not limited to:
    • Individuals with Temporary Protected Status (TPS).
    • Individuals granted humanitarian parole.
    • Asylum applicants, refugees, and individuals granted asylum.
    • Recipients of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
    • Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) beneficiaries.
    • In addition, this category includes foreign nationals approved to temporarily live in the US for a specific purpose (e.g., as students) who have a permanent residence abroad. Individuals with Lawful Permanent Resident Status should not select this option and should instead select Permanent US Resident.
  • Non-resident: an individual who is a foreign national and who is permitted to travel in the US for tourism or business for stays of 90 days or less.
  • None: an individual for whom none of the above selections apply.

Note: to ensure applicants are entering consistent data for some questions, this application uses pre-populated answer options that are maintained by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). For example, country answer options are derived from ISO 3166, which is the international standard for country codes and codes for their subdivisions.
