Product User Interface (UI) Terminology
Standard UI Elements
This list is adapted from the Microsoft Writing Style Guide.
- Window (not "dialog" or "pop-up")
- Field (not "box")
- Drop-down (not "dropdown" or "dropdown menu")
- For TargetX, use "picklist"
- Button
- You should generally omit the term "button" when describing a step or action as long as the placement of the button in the UI is obvious. For example, use "Click Save" instead of "Click the Save button."
- Radio button
- Checkbox
- Type ahead field
- For TargetX, use "autocomplete"
- Page (not "screen")
- Tab, subtab
- Panel, subpanel
- Sidebar (TargetX)
- Channels (e.g., Applicant Channels and Status Channels)
- Navigation menu or Nav menu (typically for Outcomes-based products)
- Menu bar (not "toolbar") (typically for WebAdMIT)
- Scroll bar
- Icon
To be researched:
- Chips (TargetX, T2T) (ideas: indicator, source tag (but "tags" are used as an Outcomes feature)

When documenting data type formats (e.g., exports from WebAdMIT), refer to Oracle’s help center for date/time format translations.
