For the 2025-2026 Cycle
Overview
If you previously created a CSU Transfer Planner account or Cal State Apply account, you have two options to start your Cal State Apply application:
- Prefill your current Cal State Apply application using data from CSU Transfer Planner.
- Prefill your current Cal State Apply application from a previous Cal State Apply account.
If you have existing accounts in both CSU Transfer Planner and Cal State Apply (such as a previous application), then we recommend you use your CSU Transfer Planner account to prefill your current Cal State Apply application. You must use the same email address to prefill your application. To avoid processing delays and difficulties, do not create a new account.
If you choose to use an existing CSU Transfer Planner account, you can start this process by either:
- Clicking the Apply for Fall/Spring button from the CSU Transfer Planner dashboard.
- Logging in to Cal State Apply and selecting I already have a Transfer Planner Account from the account page.
If you choose to use an existing Cal State Apply account from a previous cycle to reapply in the current cycle, you can select Use Data from a Previous Application from the Cal State Apply account page. You also keep the same CAS ID number from the previous cycle.
If You Choose to Start a Fresh Application
The data from your previous application cycle is wiped clean and you proceed with a blank application.
If You Choose to Copy CSU Transfer Planner Data
Information such as colleges attended, college coursework, test scores, and followed programs are copied from CSU Transfer Planner into your new Cal State Apply application. If you have a Transfer Success Pathway (TSP) enrollment agreement, your TSP program is also copied into Cal State Apply.
- From CSU Transfer Planner, click the Apply for Fall/Spring button on the dashboard. This button is only available if you have in progress or completed coursework for the A2 and B4 General Education (GE) requirements. Alternatively, log in to the Cal State Apply application.
- A welcome screen appears; confirm you want to prefill your application from CSU Transfer Planner by clicking Continue.
- Indicate that you agree to have your information from CSU Transfer Planner copied into the Cal State Apply application, and click Continue.
- Enter your CSU Transfer Planner login credentials, and click Connect Account. This cannot be undone.
- Your CSU Transfer Planner account data will begin copying to your new application. This usually takes a few minutes to complete but can be up to one hour. You will receive an email once the application is ready. You will need to review each application section to confirm the data is accurate.
Note the following additional behaviors:
- Cal State Apply limits applicants to select only one program per campus per term. If you are following multiple programs at one campus per term in CSU Transfer Planner, then you will be alerted in Cal State Apply that you must select only one program for that campus and term.
- A major in CSU Transfer Planner may correspond with multiple Cal State Apply programs. If this occurs, you can select which programs you want to add to your Cal State Apply application.
If You Choose to Copy Cal State Apply Application Data
Much of your existing Cal State Apply application information, such as personal information, colleges attended, high school and college coursework, test scores, experiences, achievements, etc., carries forward into the new application. Recommendations, essays, payments, and program-specific information cannot be copied into the new application.
When reapplying, note that you can:
- Copy your application from the previous cycle to the next (for example, from the 2023–2024 cycle into the 2024–2025 cycle).
- Skip a cycle and copy your application (for example, from the 2022–2023 cycle into the 2024–2025 cycle).
- Skip several cycles between applications. However, application data is unavailable after three cycles of inactivity (for example, if you last applied in the 2020–2021 cycle, you cannot copy your application into the 2024–2025 cycle). This includes any transcripts or WES evaluations, where applicable.
Note that your programs may be able to see that you are a reapplicant.
- Log in to the application. A welcome screen appears. Click Continue under Use Data from a Previous Application to confirm that you want to begin the reapplication process.
- Review the reapplication workflow, then click Start Reapplication.
- Ensure your profile information, including your contact information, is correct.
- Decide if you want to copy application data. Your selection cannot be changed.
- Select the information you want to carry over. Unselected items will not carry over and cannot be recovered, so ensure your selections are complete before clicking Save and Continue.
- A notification alerts you that every section of the application for which you choose to copy application data will require your review. You will need to review each application section to confirm the data is accurate. Click Continue.
- A second notification provides instructions for accessing a PDF copy of your previous application. This PDF is only available if you submitted an application last cycle. Download the PDF before clicking Continue.
- Your selected data will begin copying to your new application. This can take up to 24 hours to complete and you will receive an email once the application is ready.
