OBGYN SOAIP and Communication Preferences
Standards for OBGYN Application and Interview Process (SOAIP)
To promote a transparent, equitable, and applicant-friendly process, the Obstetrics and Gynecology specialty has adopted the following application standards recommended by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
- Application deadline September 17, 2026: while applications are due by this date, programs begin reviewing them in late September.
- Interview offers released October 27, 2026: initial interview offers are sent starting on this date, with additional offers sent on a rolling basis.
- Limit program interview invitations: programs only send as many interview invitations as they have available interview slots.
- 48 hours after interview invite to accept: applicants have at least 48 hours from the time the interview invitation email is sent to accept or decline (NRMP policy).
- Interviews no earlier than November 1, 2026: interviews will not be scheduled before this date.
- Final status not later than November 25, 2026: programs notify applicants of their final status (e.g., interview, decline, waitlist, etc.) by this date.
- Virtual interviews for all applicants: all interviews, including those for local applicants, are conducted virtually.

Program Communication Preferences
The Obstetrics and Gynecology specialty, with support from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), has compiled and shared individual program communication preferences below so applicants understand how and when to engage with each program.
- Only review applications that signal: the program only reviews applications from applicants who have signaled their program.
- Communication between deadline and offer release: the program requests any updates to the application after the application deadline (September 17, 2026), but before interview offers are released (October 27, 2026), to be communicated by (their selection below). For example, many programs prefer that your ResidencyCAS application be updated directly.
- Contact after interviews: after interview offers have been made, the program requests that faculty, medical school officials, and other proxies do/do not contact the program to solicit additional interviews.
- Updates after interviews: the program requests that any updates to the applications after interviews are released (October 27, 2026) be communicated by (their selection below).
- Thank you emails: the program requests that applicants do/do not send thank-you emails or letters to the program, residents, or interviewers.
- Accept communication from faculty/medical schools: the program will/will not accept or review additional communication from faculty/medical school officials/proxies after interviews are complete.
- Only respond to program questions: this program will only communicate with applicants to answer questions about the program and will not respond to other communications (e.g., thank you emails or letters of intent) from the applicants.
- Second Look Visits: the program offers “second look” visits.
- Second Looks after certifying rank list: if offered, “second looks” will only be offered after the program certifies its rank list.
- Accepts Letters of Intent: the program accepts Letters of Intent (LOIs) from applicants.
