Understanding Twilio SMS Errors
When an SMS message cannot be sent due to a Twilio error, the Communication Planner displays the error in the existing recipient list. This gives users the information needed to investigate delivery issues without accessing the Twilio Console, which is especially useful when TargetX manages an institution’s Twilio sending configuration.
How Errors Display
If TargetX receives a Twilio error code for a recipient activity, the recipient list displays a message in this format:
Twilio Error [code]: [error message]
For example:
Twilio Error 21211: The 'To' number is not a valid phone number.
The message is labeled as a Twilio error, so you can distinguish a Twilio-generated issue from one generated by Communication Planner or Salesforce.
Long Twilio error messages are shortened in the recipient list, so they fit within the existing error-message area. Select Copy next to the error to copy the complete Twilio error message, including any details not shown in the list.
You can paste the full message into:
- A search engine or the Twilio error documentation.
- An internal support request.
- A TargetX Support ticket.
Common Twilio Errors
|
Error |
What it means |
What to check |
|---|---|---|
| 21211 | The recipient’s To number is invalid or incorrectly formatted. | Confirm that the recipient’s phone number is valid and formatted in E.164 format, including the + and country code. |
| 21408 | Twilio does not have permission to send an SMS to the destination region. | Review the Twilio account’s Messaging Geo Permissions and confirm that the destination country or region is enabled and supported. |
If the error continues after you have reviewed the recipient’s phone number and applicable Twilio settings, copy the full error message and include it in a TargetX Support ticket.
