Setting up field dependencies for Retention Categories and Types

  1. Navigate to Setup and select Object Manager.
  2. Click on the Advising object.
  3. In the Field Dependencies section, select New.
  4. Select the Controlling Field. This will be the field that determines which values dictate the available options in the Dependent Field. For example, to setup a Field Dependency between Categories and Type you would select the following:
    1. Controlling Field = Category
    2.  Dependent Field = Type

The result will be that the Type field picklist values will change depending on what is select for Category.

  1. Each available Category will be displayed across the top of the table.
  2. Follow the window instructions to Include Values or Exclude Values..
  3. Select Preview to validate your changes.
  4. Save your changes.

If no dependency is configured,  the picklist will display valid values for that record type.
