Testing in the Communication Planner

Overview

In TargetX Communication Planner, you can test email templates to view how they are delivered within a track. You can also test how templates appear to different recipients at the element-level. Anyone who will review templates as part of testing must belong to a Test List, which is managed in Settings.

Testing an entire track within a campaign

You can view a series of emails appear as scheduled within a track by testing from the track within a campaign. Testing from the track will send a copy of the email/SMS elements based on the first recipient ID in the associated report as they are scheduled throughout the track.

After creating a test list(s), associate it with the track in Track Details. You can only add, change, or remove test lists from a track when creating or editing an inactive track.

Enter the rest of the track information in Email Settings and SMS Settings (if enabled for the track), and when you are ready to start testing, active the track.

Drip track emails will not respect the day gap between steps when testing. In testing, the default gap between each email is one day.

For details on creating tracks, see Creating Campaigns.

Testing a specific template

To test a template and how it appears to a specific recipient, test it at the element level or within Quick Messages. The test will be sent to all members of the associated test list. Test list members will receive one email for each recipient on the associated report, up to 25 records. Each message will be delivered as if sent to the recipient on the report.

Testing in an element or from quick messages allows for comparing email template conditions and merge fields based on the different records on the recipient report. Test list members will receive all messages at one time.

To test from within an element or quick message, navigate to the Content tab and scroll down to Send Test Email. Select the Report Folder, Report Name, and the Test List to receive the test emails. Click Send test email and your test emails are on the way!

Quick tip: Build one or a few recipient reports to test content containing different object conditions or merge fields.

Notes:

  • If multiple test lists are assigned to a track and members appear on multiple lists, they will receive an email/SMS for each list to which they belong.
  • Tracking data is returned for messages, but ‘engagement’ based content in Drip tracks is not followed in test sending.
