Working with Recommended Events

Using Recommended Events

Recommended Events display:

  • An event Thumbnail Image
  • An event description
  • A button that - when clicked - redirects the student to a filtered view of those related, recommended events (in list view)

Event records are set up with attributes such as Category, Type, Location. The Recommended Events object attempts to match to other Events. The following fields on the Recommended Events object support the matching process:

  • Event Name  (used for an exact match to an Org Event record)
  • Match Category
  • Match Type
  • Match Location

If a matching Recommend Events record is found, the events system will return a well-formed URL to the Confirmation Page (left-hand panel).

The following fields on the Recommended Events object to support this results process:

  • Result Category
  • Result Type
  • Result Location

If more than one (1) Recommended Event is found, the Priority fields determine the display order on the Confirmation page (left-hand panel).

The Recommended Events information that is displayed on the Confirmation page (left-hand-panel) includes:

  • Event image
  • Attached to this record as Notes & Attachments
  • Any Filename
  • Event Description
  • Description field
  • "View All" button

An override option is available on Events records to ignore/suppress any matching Recommended Events on an event-by-event basis.

Notes:

  • To display a thumbnail image for the Recommended Event, attach the thumbnail file to the Recommended Event record using the naming conventions for adding images to Events.
  • When adding a recommended event image, you must be in Classic so the related image uploads as an attachment, not a file. It will upload as a file if done in Lightning, and the system won't recognize it.

When you set up Recommended Events, you can define a matching process for displaying recommended events.

Configuring Recommended Events

  1. Access the Recommended Event tab and click New to create a new Recommended Event.
  2. Populate the fields on the Recommended Event page.
  3. Recommended Events Name - the Name of the event to be recommended
  • Description - a description of the recommended event.  This is the description that displays at the time there is a recommendation event.
  • Event Name - If the registered Name is an exact match for the data in this field, the event(s) matching data from the Results fields will be presented to the registrant
  • Match fields -  If the registered event matches the value in the match field, the event(s) matching data from the Results fields will be presented to the registrant.
    • Match Category
    • Match Location
    • Match Type
  • Priority - if more than one recommended event matches, this field determines the order that the matches are returned.  That is, priority one events are placed at the top of the list, followed by priority 2, 3, etc.
  • Results Fields - if the Event Name or any of the Match fields are the same as the event the individual registered for, then any events with the selected category(ies), location(s), or type(s) are returned.
    • Results Category
    • Results Location - NOTE: only one location can be selected
    • Results Type
  1. Save your changes.

Note: To display a thumbnail image for the Recommended Event, attach the thumbnail file to the Recommended Event record using the naming conventions for adding images to Events.

An override option is available to allow the suppression of 'Recommended Events' on an event-by-event basis.
